Sermon – Lent 2, by Rev. Ken Wratten
In this second sermon of the series on Fear, I presented a personal look at the different ways we each exhibit our Fear of Not Mattering. This source of fear is reinforced by our culture, and by the high population area and crowded roads and shops we use. We become a number, another nameless face. We respond to that fear in the ways we ‘engage’ with people around us, the way we dress, and I have suggested maybe even through our view of the role of having a family. Holy Scripture offers valuable insight into this issue of Not Mattering. I think every youth should hear this message. All kids, when growing up, particularly when becoming young adults and starting to think about where they fit in this world, should feel like they matter. When a young person believes he or she can make a difference in this world, it inspires him or her to strive and accomplish great things. I think that is true for all of us. Leaders in every organization have much more productive staffs or groups when each person believes he or she can and is expected to make a difference. To know that God has created all of us this way is incredibly powerful! It is part of His design for us.
